Utilizing the WIPO Digital Access Service (DAS) allows for priority documents to be exchanged between IP offices electronically, eliminating the need to issue and send physical priority documents when filing new applications with a priority claim. To perfect a priority claim using this system when filing in Korea, it is sufficient to simply provide details (application no., application date) of the earlier application filed in one of the supported countries, along with the DAS code.
As of April 1, 2020, the DAS system for exchange of design application priority documents between the Korean IP Office (KIPO) and other IP offices has been expanded to include seven new countries, bringing the total to ten. Details below:
DAS Implementation Date (for Design Applications) |
Countries |
---|---|
Jul 1, 2018 | China |
Dec 1, 2018 | US |
Jan 1, 2020 | Japan |
Apr 1, 2020 | Norway, Spain, Australia, Canada, Chile, Georgia, India |
In addition, DAS exchange of priority documents will now be supported between KIPO (Korea), the USPTO (US) and JPO (Japan) for international design applications filed via the Hague system.
